Rest & Thrive

finding rest in the restless world

DATES

THE INVITATION

The case for doing less

Rest is not the opposite of productivity. It is not a gap between efforts, or a reward for having earned it. It is its own form of attention, one that most of us have simply forgotten how to pay.
We have spent long enough treating exhaustion as evidence of commitment. The person who can’t stop is not more dedicated. They have lost access to the thing that makes dedication worthwhile. Somewhere underneath the velocity, there is a life that has been waiting for them to slow down long enough to notice it.

Four days off-grid in the Cederberg without signal. Long enough for rest to be the ground everything else grows from. Four days is not an arbitrary number. Something shifts around that threshold, in the nervous system, in the quality of sleep, in the way the mind begins to move.

Rest & Thrive is the signature retreat at Bliss & Stars. The most complete introduction to what this place is: mindfulness, somatic practice and breathwork, long unhurried days in nature, and nights under one of the darkest skies in South Africa. Conversation when you want it. Silence when you need it.

THE APPROACH

What we do, if we had to name it

Move slowly. Do less.

1

Rest

The days here are unhurried. Long mornings, unscheduled afternoons, meals eaten without urgency. There is time by the river, time in the mountains, time that belongs to nothing in particular. This is not filler between sessions. It is the practice itself. The body needs extended periods of genuine ease to begin releasing what it has been holding. Most guests do not realise how much that is until they soften.

2

Mindfulness

Stress does not live in the schedule. It lives in the body: the held jaw, the braced shoulders, the breath that never quite lands. Daria’s mindfulness, somatic, and breathwork sessions work beneath the story, in the body itself.  These are invitations to feel what is already here, and to stay there long enough that something can complete.

3

Stars

Awe interrupts the self-referential loop the mind runs on by default. The constant low hum of planning, evaluating, rehearsing. The Cederberg is one of the darkest corridors in South Africa. Each evening Heine takes you to the telescope. The nervous system responds to what you see there differently than it responds to a view. Something in it recognises the scale and releases its grip, just slightly, on everything it has been holding.

WHAT A DAY LOOKS LIKE

Slow mornings. Early nights.

We could give you the timetable. The wake-up, the sitting hours, the gap after brunch. But the need to know the shape of the day before you arrive is the very thing you came to put down. The rhythm changes with the season.

YOUR GUIDES

Daria & Heine Rasmussen

ASTROPHOTOGRAPHER · SOMATIC PRACTITIONER · FOUNDERS

“Rest is balance between what we love to do and how we love to be.”

We know what it is to move fast and call it living. To be efficient, capable, and quietly depleted. Bliss & Stars was not built from ambition. It was built from the pause that followed all of that, and from the years spent learning what genuine rest actually requires.

Daria holds the days. Trained in Somatic Experiencing, certified breathwork facilitator, long-term student of the Theravada contemplative tradition. She does not help you get on top of your life. She sits with you while you discover you were never as far behind as you thought.

Heine holds the nights. Astrophotographer, nature guide, owner of one of the largest privately held telescopes in South Africa. He grew up under the northern sky, came to the Cederberg, and saw the rest of it. He explains the cosmos in language that makes the scale feel personal. Guests come back talking about what it felt like.
