Aging for Women . . . Come on: Seriously?
Aging for women . . . I mean, come on people, seriously?
The societal pressure to look like you’re 25 when you’re actually 50 is ridiculous. As if we’re supposed to exercise acts of self-aggression just to feel worthy? That’s just straight-up insane.
We’re constantly being told that we have to fight any sign of aging, like it’s some kind of war. The beauty industry says, “Buy this cream and you’ll look young again!” and we’re just like, “Sure, why not? I’ll throw my money at this thing that will probably never work.”
Let’s talk about the damaging behaviors that come with trying to maintain a youthful appearance. Excessive dieting, compulsive exercise, cosmetic procedures . . . it’s self-inflicted torture. We’re told that these things will make us feel better but all they do is reinforce the idea that aging is something to be feared.
Don’t even get me started on the self-criticism that comes with trying to look young. We compare ourselves to models and movie stars wondering why we don’t look like them. A lot of what we see and absorb has been photoshopped or enhanced in the pursuit of “perfection” – you know it and I know it. . Give yourself a break already!
Here’s the thing: aging is inevitable. Embrace it. Celebrate it. Embrace the wisdom and experience that comes with it. Reject the societal pressure to look young. Take back the aging process and embrace the future with confidence and grace.
Let’s give ourselves a break and learn to love ourselves a little bit more. Who cares if you have wrinkles? It just means you’ve lived a full life and have some stories to tell . . . that’s something to be proud of, not ashamed of.
Anais Nin, a writer who saw aging as a time of growth, reflection, and liberation, believed that women should embrace their inner strength and beauty while celebrating the aging process. In her writing, she encourages women to find beauty in their own unique journey – rejecting the societal pressure to conform to a narrow standard of beauty. She argued that women should focus on what gives life its richness and depth: self-love, self-acceptance, and the wisdom and experience that come with age.
Embrace the aging process with confidence and grace. Celebrate your life and find beauty in your own unique journey.
I am loving my wrinkles, baby! They’re like little badges of honor, marking all the adventures and experiences I’ve had in life. Society tells us to hide our wrinkles and fear aging but screw that noise! I embrace every line and every crease as a symbol of my journey and all the ups and downs that have made me who I am today. Plus, who wouldn’t want to rock a little character on their face?
C’mon . . . wrinkles show that you’ve lived, laughed, and loved. Let’s celebrate them and live life to the fullest, because that’s what really keeps us young at heart.
Keeping our minds and hearts young is what really matters so let’s focus on that. Let’s focus on love, laughter, and good times with friends and family. That’s what will keep us young at heart, and isn’t that what really matters in the end?
